Tepegözler (Kykloplar) / Cyclopes (singular Cyclops)

Sonra Toprak (Gaia) Kyklopları doğurdu.
Azgın yürekli Brontes'i, Steropes'i ve belalı Arges'i. Ki bunlar
vermiştir Zeus'a şimşekleri, yıldırımı. Her bakımdan tanrıya benziyordu
bunlar ama bir tek gözleri vardı alınlarında. Yuvarlak tek gözlerinden
geliyordu adları, güçlü, zorlu ve başarılıydılar her yaptıklarında.

Tek gözlü devler, Tepegözler Kronos tarafından tekrar Tartaros'a
hapsedildikten sonra Zeus tarafından kollanmışlar ve onlar da Zeus'a
babasını ve Titanları yenmesinde yardım etmişlerdir. Kykloplar usta
deircilerdir. Zeus şimşek ve yıldırımı, Poseidon'a üç çatallı zıpkınını
ve Hades'e görünmez kılan miğferi onlar yapmışlardır. Hades'in miğferini
daha sonra Perseus Medusa'yı öldürürken kullanmıştır. Dendiğine göre
Kykloplar Zeus'un yıldırımını yapmış olmaları nedeniyle bu yıldırımla
Zeus tarafından öldürülen oğlu Asklepios'un intikamını almak isteyen
Apollo tarafından öldürülmüşlerdir.
İkinci nesil Kykloplar ise Sicilyalı ve Lykia'lı Kykloplardır. Bunlar da
işçi, demirci ve duvarcılardır. Hephaistos'un yanında çalışmışlardır.
Ancak Homeros'un Odyssey destanında Sicilyalı Kykloplar serseri çobanlar
olarak betimlenmişlerdir ve bunlar içerisinde en bilineni deniz tanrısı
Poseidon ile deniz nympası Thoosa'nın oğlu Kyklop Polyphemos'tur.

And again, she bare [Gaia the earth to
Ouranos (Uranus) the sky] the Cyclopes, overbearing in spirit, Brontes,
and Steropes and stubborn-hearted Arges, who gave Zeus the thunder and
made the thunderbolt : in all else they were like the gods, but one eye
only was set in the midst of their fore-heads. And they were surnamed
Cyclopes (Orb-eyed) because one orbed eye was set in their foreheads.
Strength and might and craft were in their works.

After Cronus imprisoned the Cyclopes back in Tartarus back, Zeus looked
after them to help him to defeat his father and the Titans. They were
skilled blacksmiths who forged Zeus' thunderbolts, Poseidon's trident,
and Hades' Helmet of Darkness, which Perseus would later use in his on
his quest to kill Medusa. It is said that Apollo killed Cyclopes in
revenge for their making the bolts that Zeus used to kill his son
Asclepius.
The second generation of Cyclopes was a band of lawless shepherds living
in Sicily who had lost the skill of metallurgy. The most famous of these
was Cyclops Polyphemus, the son of Poseidon and the sea nymph Thoosa,
from whom Odysseus narrowly escapes after he blinds him in Homer's
Odyssey.
